Knowledge is a ticket out of poverty.

The Salvation Army operates hundreds of after school programs in low and moderate income neighborhoods across the country.

Fifty-seven percent of children between 6 and 17 years old participate in at least one after-school extracurricular activity.

Children were more likely to participate in sports (35%) than clubs or lessons like music, dance and language.

The Salvation Army offers children a safe place to learn and grow.

Our first priority is to meet basic human needs, but we recognize the importance of programs that go beyond the basics of food, shelter, clothing and safety. In addition to meeting basic needs, The Salvation Army strives to provide programs that will help children thrive during crucial developmental years - from after school programs and summer camps, to childcare and toys at Christmas.

The Salvation Army supplements and supports kids' educational opportunities through a variety of programs.

Chopped Jr: Cooking Classes for Kids
The Chopped Jr. program provides a safe space to learn and grow in the kitchen. Youth participants will learn proper safety, cuisine techniques, healthy eating, and preparation. The program is offered during the Fall, Winter, and Spring and is a six-week enrichment activity. In the final week, there's a cooking competition. Classes are for ages 7-16 with a $20 fee to participate. To register, contact Denver Red Shield at (303) 295-2107.

VOLO Recreation
The Volo Kids Foundation uses the power of play to build communities of active, resilient, and confident kids through quality sports programs and opportunities at no cost to families. Their goal is to get every kid playing! This particular organization's recreational games or activities will be incorporated into your child(ren)'s after-school and summer day camp program schedule.

High Peak Camp
This program gives youth ages 7-17 a residential camping experience in the beautiful mountain setting of Estes Park, Colorado. For more information contact Captain Ryan Boyd by phone or email at (720) 460-5024; ryan.boyd@usw.salvationarmy.org
